    Dennis Mackey (C73) and George Peters (C73)

    Dennis

    Dennis Mackey (Kyaw Thu, C73) and George Peters (C73) did their final year project at UCC. Their supervisor was Saya Allen Htay (C58, GBNF).

    George moved to Perth, Australia. I met him at the RIT Reunion Dinner in Sydney, Australia in 2006.

    Dennis moved to Auckland, New Zealand. He reported about the alumni activities in NZ along with Saya Dr. Koung Nyunt (A67, GBNF) and Stanley Saw (Myo Lwin, M71).

    After retirement, Dennis moved to Canada.

    In late 2018, Dennis paid respect to Sayagyi Dr. Aung Gyi.

    • Robert’s father (Chan Boon Pin) graduated with Mechanical and Engineering Combined Degree from the Faculty of Engineering in 1948 – 49.

    U Myo Myint (M)

    He is from the Class of 73. He took sabbatical and graduated in 1974. He retired as Deputy Chief Engineer of Burma Railways.

    He has connections with the Class of 72. His spouse is a cousin of U Myo Myint Pe (ChE72). He shared a dinner table with Saya U Aung Myaing (ChE72).

    He designed and drew covers for RIT Annual Magazines and the commemorative issues of Swel Daw Yeik Magazines.

    He drew Pon Tus of sayas and sayamas, and gave most of them as presents at the SPZPs or RIT gatherings. He sent via Lu Kyone some Pon Tus for the overseas sayas.

    He also drew Oil Paintings and sold (or auctioned) them and gave the proceeds to the SPZP funds.

    Negotiation

    • In 1958, Brigadier Generals Maung Maung & Aung Gyi negotiated with Prime Minister U Nu to handover to a Caretaker Government for six months.
    • The Caretaker stayed for 1.5 years. It was the first Broken Promise by the Adhamma practitioners.

    U Soe Aung (M/Auto 70) visited Kampuchea (Cambodia) for a conference.

    He was surprised and delighted to see a Burmese Inscription at a temple in Ankor Wat.

  • Four Families

    Alphabetical Order

    • Cecil Teoh (C63) and Edward Teoh (M64) are the 3rd and 5th of the 15 Teoh Siblings named alphabetically — from A (Albert) to O (Oscar).
    • Kenny Teoh was the web master of MEHS (Methodist English High School) web site.

    Named after Vowels, but

    • Ko Aung Win (Owen, M71) is the 4th of 6 Khoo Siblings.
    • The first 5 were named after vowels — A (Alan), E (Eddie), I (Iris), O (Owen), U (Unice).
    • The youngest is named after the first consonant : B (Beepo).

    Saluja Brothers

    • Dave Singh Saluja (SPHS63) left RIT to found Rama Enterprise in Bangkok with his elder brother (MIT Alumnus, GBNF).
    • His eldest brother was a Playboy.
    • Their father Teja Singh was an Entrepreneur, who passed on his expertise to his seven sons.
    • Dave and his siblings live and work in USA, UK, India and Thailand.
    • Dave collected comics, cartoons and jokes; he was Humor Editor of the Newsletter published by RIT English Association.
    • Singh is a common middle name for male Sikhs.
      It was established partly to counter discrimination (in the caste dominant days).
    • Saluja is a family name.

    Thirteen Siblings

    Ko Kyaw Myint and brothers
    • Ko Kyaw Myint (T72) is the youngest of 13 siblings.
    • Four brothers — U Saw Maung (85 years), Dr. Kan Nyunt (83 years), U Sein Tun (81 years) and Ko Kyaw Myint (71 years) are alive and well.
    • His great great grandfather had 40 spouses concurrently — unbroken record in the family.
      The closest challenger had only 4 (not concurrent).

    When the schools were closed following the first Anniversary of 7th July, Kyaw Win and Maung Maung Kyi applied for scholarships to study in Germany.

    Maung Maung Kyi received Dip Ing in ChE with Specislization in Pulp and Paper. He worked at Sittaung Paper Mill and PPIC before moving to Wales, UK.

    Kyaw Win had a higher calling. He and his friends protested in front of the Burmese Embassy. The higher authorities were alarmed at their movement and recalled back to Burma. Fortunately, he was able to complete his EE in Rangoon.

    GBNF

    Willie Soe Maung was from the first batch of BDS. He passed away quite early.

    Myint Thein passed away after having medical problems for a long time.

    Maung Maung Kyi passed away in Wales.
