    Pon Tu Expert

    • U Myo Myint (M73) retired as Deputy General Manager at Railways.
    • He is a distinguished artist.
    • Designed the covers of RIT Annual Magazines and the commemorative Swel Daw Yeik Magazines.
    • Displayed his paintings at SPZP-2016 and donated the proceeds of the sales of his paintings to the Organizing Committee.
      He let U Myo Aung and me join for a group photo.
    • Drew Pon Tus of sayas and sayamas and gave them as “Garawa” gift.
    • Saya U Kyaw Sein (M65, GBNF) compiled the Pon Tu of about 70 sayas and sayamas.
      Saya U Tin Lin (ChE72) annotated the photos. Saya U Aung Myaing (ChE72) and team created a music video using the Pon Tu’s.

    Associations

    Colonel Hla Oung headed the Burma Hiking and Mountaineering Association.

    • Composer Maung Ngwe Hlinne (Saya U Thet Lwin)
    • He composed the song when he was at the Institute of Economics. He received a “Dat Pya” (Record) from Myanmar Ah Than / BBS (Burma Broadcasting Service) and a remuneration of K100 (which he shared with his musicians).
    • He taught Burmese at the Institute of Economics before transferring to RIT (Rangoon Institute of Technology) as Registrar.
    • He served as Administrator at RASU (Rangoon Arts and Science University) and as Director at the Ministry of Education.
    • The song was sung at many gatherings at Universities and Institutes, SPZPs (Saya Pu Zaw Pwes) and the Opening Ceremony of RU Centennial.
    • There was a TV Interview about the song.

    Khaung Daing Luyechun Camp

    • Luyechun stands for Outstanding Student.
    • Luyechun Program was established in 1964.
      Eligible students from 7th Standard to 10th Standard were chosen to attend the Ngapali Luyechun Camp.
    • The Program was extended in 1965 for eligible students from Universities and Institutes.
      There were three Camps :
      Inlay Camp for high school and university students
      Ngapali Camp for middle school students
      Rangoon “Combined” Camp
    • I was selected as RIT Luyechun for the Inlay Camp along with Ko Sein Shwe, Ko Zaw Min [Nawaday] and Ma Khin Than Myint Tin (Margaret).
    • Ko Kyaw Sein Koe (Victor Koe, GBNF), Ma Anita Aye Pe, Ko Khin Maung U and Ma Than Than Tin (Cherry Hlaing) were selected for IM(1).
    • Ko Tun Naung (BDS, Stereo Khit Pioneer), Ko Soe Aung (IM2, elder brother of Ko Soe Myint [UCC]), Ko Min Oo (Mathematics), Ko Ye Myint & Ma Khin Aye Than (Chemistry), Ko Myint Thein & Ko Soe Lwin (Physics), and Ko Tin Hlaing (Lay Dwin Thar Saw Chit, Burmese) were some who were selected for their disciplines.
    • Those from Matriculation include Ko Win Myint (later Bogyoke), Ko Aung Win (later RIT Saya), Uttam Singh (later NASA_, and Ma Pwint Than (later EPC). They joined RIT.
    • Others include : Ko Aung Shwe (brother of Tekkatho Phone Naing), Ko Than Sit (Liver Foundation, GBNF), Ko Aung Kyaw Nyunt, Ko Aung Myint, Ko Thein Lwin, and Nelson Kaw.

  • Khin Maung U / Oo

    Khin Maung U (SPHS 63, IM1 70)

    • First in Burma in the Matriculation examination of 1963.
      Had perfect scores of 100 in Mathematics and Chemistry and a score of 99 in Physics.
      Grapevine says that one point was deducted from the initial score.
    • Selected as “Lu Ye Chun” from IM (1)multiple times.
    • Due to changes in the Education System, he had to do his Masters locally.
    • His persistence paid off in getting Fellowships from UK and Australia and an MD.
    • Retired from FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the USA.
    • Volunteered as translator/interpreter for dhamma courses and meditation retreats.
    • Young Khin Maung U can be seen standing from left in the second last row in the photo taken in Std. VIII(A) at SPHS.
    • A newspaper clipping shows the top Matriculates from SPHS in 1963 led by Khin Maung U.
