  • U Aung Gyi Shwe (E69er)

    He served as Secretary of RIT Track and Field Association.

    He also played Soccer.

    He also enjoyed Weightlifting.

    He is related by marriage to U Kyaw Myint (T72, President of MARB) and Daw Sandi Hlaing (T72).

    After retirement, he often visited his sons in Singapore. On one trip, due to Q-requirement he had to spend a large part at a hotel. He had some free time to chat with me.

    He was a regular at the 69er Breakfast Gatherings.

  • U Aye Win Kyaw (C70)

    U Aye Win Kyaw (C70, GBNF) joined the Department of Civil Engineering with his friends Madan Chand (GBNF) and U Aung.

    He is a founding member and EC of BARB. He taught Astronomy at BARB and MARB.

    His son visited him at a Pyin Oo Lwin Clinic and passed away in the shower room (due to an electrical safety problem that was ignored by the Clinic.)

    He felt distress, which probably affected his health and demise.

  • U Than Htay (MARB)

    U Myint Sein (GBNF) attended PPBRS, SPHS and Institute of Economics.

    He is a founding member of BARB and served as Principal of Veda courses.

    He requested me to develop programs for Veda. I supervised U Win Latt to develop Win Horo and U Zaw Tun to develop အဟော program (in Prolog).

    He later founded Idea Astrology.

    He served as Visiting Professor at the School for Indigenous Medicine. His expertise included Medical Astrology.

    ** Notes

    * U Myint Sein and Veda Sayas (e.g U Khin Aung Bo, U Myint Lwin and U Than Htay) taught classes at BARB. Sad to note that all four are GBNF.

    * They would also hold discussions (and Live Readings) at some houses / places.

    * Saya U Aye Win Kyaw (C70, GBNF) is a founding member and EC of BARB.

    He taught Astronomy and Astronomy at BARB.

    • Some Veda sayas (e.g. U Hla Win, Dr. Aung Myin Bo) would pick me up to visit MARB
  • U Ko Ko Lay (UCC)

    Saya U Ko Ko Lay matriculated from St. Paul’s High School in 1956.

    He received BS and MS in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, USA.

    He transferred from PWD to UCC as Manager of Operations Division.

    He received MS in Systems Engineering from Lancaster University, UK.

    He served as Manager of Scientific Applications Division at UCC, Professor of Computer Science at Department of Computer Science (DCS) and Professor of Information Systems at Institute of Computer Science and Technology (ICST).

    He played Soccer, Volleyball and Tennis with colleagues, students and computer users.

    He had problems (e.g double vision) and had treatment in Bangkok and Rangoon.

    Sadly, he passed away.

    * Saya Dr. Chit Swe (GBNF) founded UCC with help from Saya U Soe Paing, Saya U Myo Min and Saya U Ko Ko Lay (GBNF).

    At UCC, they are known as Saya Chit, Saya Paing, Saya Myo and Saya Lay.

    * He has three younger brothers : U Than Htut (M67, RUBC Gold), Maw and Zaw (Min Htut, RUBC Gold, GBNF).

    He has three sisters.

  • U Ngwe Tun (C)

    Saya U Ngwe Tun (C) used to run a book shop called “Theingi Maw”.

    After the demise of his spouse, Saya moved to his daughter’s house.

    He did not go out during the pandemic, but he got infected by Covid and passed away.

    ** Notes

    * Ko Myint Naing and Ohn Mar Khin are variants of Covid.

    * Some who had four doses (or more) of Covid vaccine still got infected by newer strains of Covid.

  • U Tin Swe (EE)

    Saya U Tin Swe graduated with Electrical Engineering in 1953. He joined the EE Department as Assistant Lecturer.

    He received MS from Michigan University.

    He was promoted to Lecturer.

    Due to scarcity of Professorships in those days, he retired as Lecturer.

    He played Soccer for Pegu Hall and Prome Hall (which won the Inter-Hall Trophy for two consecutive years).

    He also played Tennis.

    He was an early user at UCC. He and his former students Dr. San Oo (EP67), Dr. Thein Tun (EP67) and U Aung Kyaw Pe (EP69) worked on EP projects at UCC.

    ** Notes

    * He was wrongly called as U Tint Swe, U Tin Shwe and U Tin Shwe Gyi.

    * U Tin Shwe (EP66, GBNF) thus became (wrongly) known as U Tin Shwe Lay.

    * EC and EP later became Departments with their own Professors.

    U Sein Win (GBNF) was the first EP Professor.

    Dr. San Tint (GBNF) was the first EC / Electronics Engineering Professor.

  • U Sein Hlaing (EE)

    Saya U Sein Hlaing graduated with Electrical Engineering in 1952. He joined the EE Department as Assistant Lecturer.

    He received MS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    He became Lecturer and Head of Department.

    He became one of the early Professors.

    He passed away a couple of years after his retirement.

    * U Htay Aung (Victor, EC80, Australia) is the son of Saya’s elder brother.

    * Saya’s spouse is Sayama Daw Nyunt Nyunt Yee (EP72, GBNF).

  • U Win Thein (M67)

    U Win Thein (M67) was an outstanding Organizer.

    He founded Set Hmu Thadin Zin and helped establish the RIT Mechanical Engineering Magazine.

    He was active in RIT Ah Nu Pyinnya Ah Thinn.

    He worked for Sittaung Paper Mill and PPIC.

    He then ran his business (e.g Ya Tha Cho).

    ** Notes

    * He is a member of the London Gold Flake family.

    * The photos are from U Tin Maung Aye (Accordion, M69).

  • M69ers

    Several M69ers passed away (mostly due to medical conditions).

    The parents of U Win Htein (M69) ran a Lorry / Transportation business.

    He contracted Malaria.

    He was treated with Quinine and/or Blood Transfusion.

    Sadly, he passed away.

    U Nay Win (M69, Singapore) taught Maritime subjects at a Polytechnic in Singapore. He was in and out of a hospital for three or four years before he passed away.

    U Khin Maung Gyi (M69) recently succumbed to Covid.

    U Maung Maung Gyi (SPHS64, GBNF)

    He studied Physics. He joined UCC as Operator and later became CO (Chief Operator).

    U Aung Myint (AM, Sonny, SPHS64, GBNF)

    He studied Physics. He joined the Electrical Engineering Laboratory at RIT. He transferred to UCC Systems Division as Maintenance Technician. He became Maintenance Engineer. In response to the 33-Point Questionaire, he and some UCC personnel were relieved off their duties.He opened / taught PLC (Programming Logic Controller) courses.

    He, U Ngwe Soe (Silver, Singapore) and U Tun Shwe had daily Zoom meetings. One morning, AM’s son joined the Zoom meeting to inform that his father had just passed away.

    U Ngwe Soe

    He joined UCC Systems Division as Maintenance Technician. He briefly did seafaring before settling in Singapore.

    He worked for Seimen’s.

    U Than Tun

    He joined UCC Operations Division as Operator. His spouse (Daw Hla Hla Win) is GBNF.

    He is currently in USA.

    U Myint Oo

    He joined UCC as Application Programmer.

    U Myint Swe

    He worked briefly as Computer Operator. He became involved in Application Programming, Teaching and Consulting. His spouse (Daw Nge Ma Ma Than) is GBNF.

    U Thet Lwin

    He worked briefly as Trainee Engineer in the UCC Systems Division.

    He worked for PTC and a company in Thailand.

    U Khin Maung Zaw

    He worked briefly as Trainee Engineer in the UCC Systems Division.

    He worked for companies in Singapore and USA. He retired from Microsoft.
