Fund raiser for Tekkatho Dhammayone Daw Su Su
Daw Su Su was the first occupant of Room No. (1) at Inya Hall. She danced three roles in the fund raiser for the Tekkatho ko mm Dhammayone. The director of the play was her cousin brother Saya U Lu Pe Win (Pali and Kyauksar Scholar). The rehearsal was assisted by U Nyi Bu. She was honored at the Thet Kyee Pu Zaw Pwe (Paying homage to the elders) held at the Tekkatho Dhammayone. Her account was published in the Golden Jubilee Sar Saung of Inya Hall.
She has three daughters : Hazel Saw Lwin, Dr. Olive Saw Lwin and May Saw Lwin. She wanted them to have experience (like her) at the Inya Hall. Per their mother’s request Daw Hazel Saw Lwin and Daw May Saw Lwin spent a year at Inya Hall as room mates.

Misspelled & Mispronounced
My name has two words and six letters.
It is interesting to note that my name has been misspelled and mispronounced in several ways.
They include
HAL It is an American name. It is also the name of a rouge computer in science fiction. The letters precede those of IBM (International Business Machines) by a position.
HALAL It means “clean food” for Muslims.
LA It is a musical tone.
LAH It is Singlish (Singaporean English)
MINH It is a common name for Vietnamese.
MING It is a Chinese name (e.g. Ming Dynasty)

At Toastmasters meetings, I asked the attendees if they know the meaning of their names. Several tried to Google their names.
Remembering names
One way to remember names is to register them with an association.
Examples:
Stein means a rock. Einstein means “one rock”.
Peter means “the rock”. Variations include Bedr, Pedro and Peta.
Deep means “light” and “wisdom”. Deepavali (or Diwali) is the Festival of Lights. Deepak is an Indian name.
San is a prefix for male saints. San Francisco and San Jose are the Spanish names for St. Francis and St. Joseph.
Santa is a prefix for female saints. Examples include Santa Anna, Santa Barbara and Santa Clara.
Santa Cruz (Holy Cross) and Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) are names of cities in California and Texas.

Our beloved father U Than Tun, age 98, passed away peacefully on 22-07-2018, 8:05 p.m. at his grandson’s home, Bldg #3, Rm.#13, Aungzabu Str. Kyee-Pwar-Yay Housing Estate, Thingangyun Township, Yangon.
Funeral time at Yay-way crematorium on Tuesday 24th July 2018 will be announced later.

He won Essay Contests conducted by Dawlay’s Circle of the Guardian Newspaper.
He was asked to proofread and edit columns for Dawlay’s Circle by P. Aung Khin (who took over from the original Dawlay : Daw Khin Swe Hla).
He was also asked to be a judge at the Scrabble tournaments ran by Guardian.
