Before the pandemic, NorCal RITAA provided Scholarship and/or Financial Aid to eligible YTU students,

NorCal RITAA awards

NorCal RITAA provided financial support for seven YTU students.

Four were given $1000 each.

Three were given $500 each.

Volunteers for Selection

Several RITAA members volunteered to interview the applicants and proposed a short list to NorCal RITAA for the awards.

Eight members of the Pre-selection Committee are seen together with the seven recipients.

Raffle Drawing and Auction

To raise the YTU Scholarhip Fund, a Raffle Drawing was held at the 2018 NorCal RITAA Summer Picnic at Coyote Point Park, San Mateo.

Thanks to the donors of the prizes, to the attendees who eagerly bought the raffle tickets, and to Daw San San (EC74) and Edward Saw (Yu Ket, EC85) for serving as Raffle Masters.

Gordon Kaung (Kaung Kaung Oo, M83) and Lillian Kaung (EC83) generously donated three iNapa Premium Wine bottles. Each bottle sells for $75 – $80 on the Internet.

One bottle was put as as the Grand Raffle Prize. It was won by Ma Thandar, the youngest alumni present at the Picnic.

Two bottles were put on auction.

• U Sann Naing (M84) and spouse, owners of Burma Kitchen, successfully bid for the first bottle.
• U Walter Tan (M70) and spouse successfully bid for the second bottle.
• The sales from the auction $240 also went to the YTU scholarship fund.

• There are alumni gatherings, mini-gatherings and micro-gatherings all over the world.
• They complement/supplement the world-wide Grand Reunion and SPZPs.
• Some are scheduled (e.g. monthly, quarterly).
• Some are ad hoc (e.g. welcome)
• Some are meetings for serious business.
• Some include food (pot luck, iNapa wine) and fun (karaoke, birthday cake after “kisses”).
• They complement/supplement the world-wide Grand Reunion and SPZPs.

• Sayagyi U Yone Mo is RIT’s first Rector and our Rector.
• For us he is more than a Rector because he is the father of our Mech72 Kyaw Moe. We treat him like our uncle. He was a very gentle and kind gentleman.
• One evening during our school days, two of my “notorious” Mech72 friends were joyfully swimming in the Circle Pool in front of the main building, when they were suddenly caught by the Rector. Naturally they were very much afraid.
• But SAYAGYI just told them, “You young gentlemen, this is not the swimming pool. There is the University swimming pool and if you want to swim please go there” and left. That’s all. You can see how much those notorious Mech 72 friends were relieved.
• We love our Rector and remember him ALWAYS.

In the 1961 – 62 academic year, the Faculty of Engineering moved to the Gyogone Campus and became known as Burma Institute of Technology (BIT).

U Yone Mo served as Dean of BIT. U Sein Hla served as Registrar.

• SDYF Meetings were usually hosted by U Khin Maung Tun (T78, President).
• U Khin Maung Tun led by example. He has donated and/or pledged K1500 (or more) Lakhs.

Dr. Khin Maung U (SPHS63) and Dr. Nyunt Nyunt Wai

• Dr. Khin Maung U stood First in Burma in the Matriculation of 1963. Dr. Nyunt Nyunt Wai was among the top female matriculates.
• They graduated from the Institute of Medicine (1).
• After working in Burma, they moved to USA.
• Dr. Khin Maung U worked for universities (e.g John Hopkins) and FDA.
