He matriculated from St. Albert’s High School, Maymyo.
He was admitted with Roll Number One to the first ever 1st BE in November 1964.
He graduated with Electrical Power in 1970.
He worked for HIC briefly and Ceramics Corporation.
He moved to USA, did his MS and worked in the Electronics Industry until retirement.
Activities and Achievements
He was selected as RIT Luyechun in the Summer of 1965 to attend Inlay Khaung Daing Camp.
He wrote a long article about “RIT Days 1964 – 1970”. U Ohn Khine (M70) added details and posted in the Google Group for the 1st BE Intake. I added the article and published it in RIT Alumni Newsletter.
He hosted Sayagyi U Ba Toke (who was invited to attend SPZP-2000 by his former students) at his new house in Hayward California.
He played Soccer for his Block, Class and EE department (mainly as Goalkeeper).
He was EC of Hostel Committe, Burmese Association, Maths Association, EE Association, English Association, Track & Field Association, RIT Magazine Committee.
Notes
He made waves when he complained about mismanagement at the Luyechun Camp. Later Camp Commandants were sayas (including Sayagyi U Ba Toke).
He added Nawaday to his name to minimize name conflicts (which are common for Burmese names).
Ko Ye Myint (son of Sayagyi U Ba Toke) and Ko Nyunt Maung San were Best Men at his wedding.
Ko Naing Win (GBNF) asked Ko Zaw Min to accompany him to a Cinema with his girlfriend and another (who became Ko ZM’s soul mate).
He had a short temper. He was given a stern warning for hitting a student (who instigated him). It appeared in a report requested by the father (DIG of Police) of his girlfriend, but …
He competed in the English Debate between 1st year and 2nd year classes. He won as a 1st year student. He lost as a 2nd year student.
He was a preliminary selection for the RIT crew at RUBC.
He hiked to Rakkhine with Ko Han Tha Myint and Ko Sein Win. It was reported in the newspapers.
He lived and worked in New York and California. After retirement, he moved to Las Vegas.

Class of 1970 and 1971
The 1st BE Intake of 1964 is also known as the Class of 1970, since most members graduated in 1970.
Likewise, the 1st BE Intake of 1965 is known as the Class of 1971.
The members of the two Classes hold joint gatherings including the “Reunion and Acariya Pu Zwe Pwe”.
The monthly gatherings were mostly held at Sein Hlyan Cafe.
Sein Hlyan is the name of the horse owned by U Han Tun Maung (SPHS) and his family. U Han Tun Maung was active in sports : Track and Field, Football / Soccer, Swimming, Archery and Equestrian.
Organizers of the group include U Khin Maung Thann and U Zaw Winn (Zin Yaw Gyi).
Each count down refreshes my memory of the days I studied at RIT. I would like to share three which are dear to me.
We had to write a Burmese essay on “Khit Thit Ahloo” at one of Saya U Kyaw Hlaing’s classes. Most of us wrote accusingly about the pakhathana types in the cities contrasted against the purportedly more sincere ones in towns and villages. The winning essay was written on donating blood. I have since learnt a lifelong lesson and understanding of generosity.
On the lighter side of learning, I recall engineering drawing which was taught in the huts. We had to draw plans, elevations and side views of intricately shaped blocks. The concepts of hidden lines was explained using the analogy of an attractive girl wearing tight fitting and loose fitting attire.
What sticks most in my mind – my life – is Saya U Sein Shan’s introduction to calculus. He very simply stated that hair grows so we have it cut say every month. It still grows in a day but we hardly notice the growth. It must therefore grow every hour … every minute … every second. Let’s call this change dx and the time interval dt. So we have dx/dt which is fundamental to very small scale quantum physics and also to very large scale planetary systems. 30 years later this simple concept of dx/dt (x being any variable) I have come to realize, is also awareness attained by intense contemplation, concentration and meditation.
The training and education we received from all our Sayas and Sayamas at RIT is indeed second to none. I can say this with certainty because I have also studied at other universities.

I visited Yangon twice in 2012.
During my first visit, he hosted a welcome dinner at Feel restaurant to meet U Ohn Khine, Saya U Aung and several alumni. His son-in-law gave us a ride. He gave me an autographed copy of “Selected Cartoons from RIT Magazines and Set Hmu Thadinzin” and told me that a commemorative issue will be published by four (or more) generations of famous “RIT Cartoon Box” cartoonists (some who made to national and international fame).
During my second visit, he gave a ride to attend the SPZP-2012 Preparation Meeting.
He posted me via air mail some MES Technical Digests.
Despite having medical problems and several visits to ICU, he gave 100% for the success of RIT-related projects in general, and SPZP-2012 in particular.
U Khin Maung Myint (ChE71) and Daw Mai Khin Khin Nyunt (Rosie, ChE71) were among those who graduated from RIT in 1971. They shared the results published in Working People’s Daily.
In the early days, Mechanical Engineering Department had two sub-departments : Automobile Engineering and Agricultural Engineering.

U Win Aung (M70) was selected High School Luyechun at TTC Practicing School in the Summer of 1964. He served as Secretary of RIT Swimming & Water Polo.
U Soe Aung (M/Auto70) served as Secretary of RIT Ah Nu Pyinnya Ah Thin. He wrote articles for the Combined 1st BE Intake of 64 and 65.
