    • Son of Saya U Kar
    • Succeeded Sayagyi Dr. Chit Swe as Director of Universities Computer Center (UCC)
    • During his tenure, the Department of Computer Science (DCS) and ICST were established
    • Retired as Rector of ICST

    U Ko Ko Lay (GBNF)

    • Helped Sayagyi Dr. Chit Swe found UCC along with Saya U Soe Paing and Saya U Myo Min.
    • Transferred from PWD to UCC as Operations Manager.
    • Later served as Scientific and Applications Manager.
    • When the Department of Computer Science (DCS) was established, he served as Professor and Head of the Department.
    • When ICST opened, he served as Professor and Head of Information Technology Department.

    U Tun Aung Gyaw

    • Most senior volunteer among the “Generation Zero” members who worked on the UCC project before it was finally funded by UNDP and executed by UNESCO
    • Joined UCC as the first batch of employees.
    • Succeeded Saya U Soe Paing as Systems Manager

    • Associate Professor and Head of Hardware Technology Department at ICST
    • He later received his doctorate from UIUC.

    • Thirty students chose to study Computer Science.

    • Cho Mar Nyunt passed away on July 12, 2017.
    • In her memory, UCS.ICST Alumni in Singapore donated to the Burmese Buddhist Temple (BBT).

    ICST SPZP in 2018

    Saw Yan Naing (son of Dr. Saw Naing and nephew of Saya Dr. Myo Khin (C70)) gave me a ride to the SPZP in January 2018.

    The SPZP was held in five batches. As a member of “Generation Zero of UCC”, I covered some milestones of the Introduction of Computers to Burma under the leadership of Sayagyi Dr. Chit Swe.

    Daw Nge Ma Ma Than (Ma Nge, GBNF) attended the SPZP.

    ICST/UCSY published a commemorative magazine for the 30th Anniversary of the founding of UCC. I wrote “Paying Back to My Alma Mater” (a summary of the 30+ posts about UCC) for the issue.

    San Yin Myint (Samantha), one of the organizers for the Pu Zaw Pwe, is a niece of Saya U Win Kyaing (GBNF) and a cousin of U Hla Myint Thein (Maurice Chee, M75).

      They miss Robert Win Boh (now in hibernation after recovering twice from Stroke and once from Cancer).

    • The initial Luyechun program ran from 1964 to 1988.
    • The Luyechun program was revived a few years back.

    1964

    Luyechun (Outstanding Student) Program was established in 1964. Eligible students from 7th Standard to 10th Standard were chosen to attend the Ngapali Luyechun Camp.

    1964 Luyechuns include Ko Win Aung, Ko Oke Soe Kha (son of Saya Dr. Maung Maung Kha) from Rangoon, Ma Pwint Than (Loikaw), Ko Aung Myint (Mandalay), and Ma Mie Mie Khine (Akyab).

    1965

    Luyechun Program was extended in 1965 for eligible students from Universities and Institutes. There were three Camps

    • Inlay Camp for high school and university students
    • Ngapali Camp for middle school students
    • Combined Camp in Rangoon

    I was selected as RIT Luyechun for the Inlay Camp along with Ko Sein Shwe, Ko Zaw Min [Nawaday] and Ma Khin Than Myint Tin (Margaret).

    Ko Kyaw Sein Koe (Victor Koe, GBNF), Ma Anita Aye Pe, Ko Khin Maung U and Ma Than Than Tin (Cherry Hlaing) were selected for IM(1).

    Ko Tun Naung (GBNF, BDS, Stereo Khit Pioneer), Ko Soe Aung (IM2, elder brother of Ko Soe Myint [GBNF, UCC]), Ko Min Oo (Mathematics), Ko Ye Myint & Ma Khin Aye Than (Chemistry), Ko Myint Thein & Ko Soe Lwin (Physics), and Ko Tin Hlaing (Lay Dwin Thar Saw Chit, Burmese) were some who were selected for their disciplines.

    Those from Matriculation include Ko Win Myint (later Bogyoke), Ko Aung Win (later RIT Saya), Uttam Singh (later NASA) and Ma Pwint Than (later EPC). They joined RIT.

    Others include :
    Ko Aung Shwe (brother of Tekkatho Phone Naing), Ko Than Sit (GBNF, Liver Foundation), Ko Aung Kyaw Nyunt (GBNF), Ko Aung Myint, Ko Thein Lwin, Nelson Kaw and Ko Kyaw Myint.

    • Her short story was translated into English and published in the WPD (Working People’s Daily).
    • She blogged about her RIT & G Hall days and also published the book.
