  • Tie may stand for Draw.
    e.g. The match ended in a 1-1 Tie (or Draw).
  • In the early days, the winner of a soccer game [in a round robin or league play] earns 2 points.
    The loser does not earn points.
    Teams share 1 point for a tied game.
    Conservative teams tend to play defensively to tie games rather than losing.
  • Currently, the winner of a soccer game earns 3 points.
    The loser does not earn points.
    Team share 1 point for a tied game.
    The scheme was introduced to incentivize offensive plays.
