Tribunal for U Saw’s Trial

Thanks to Dr. Thane Oke Kyaw Myint (SPHS60) for permission to use the rare photo : Tribunal for Galon U Saw’s Trial.

His father Justice U Kyaw Myint headed the Tribunal. Justice U Aung Kyaw Tha and Session Judge U Si Bu were members.

U Saw and his followers assassinated Bogyoke Aung San, Thakin Mya, Deedok U Ba Cho, Mahn Ba Khaing, Sao San Tun (Mongpawn Sawbwa), U Ba Win, U Razak, U Ohn Maung and Ko Htwe on July 19, 1947.

There are unsolved mysteries.

Gun shots were fired at U Kyaw Myint’s house (during the case proceedings). Family members had to lie on the floor.

U Kin Oung (Australia, son of Police Chief who arrested U Saw & son-in-law of Insein Jail Chief / later Justice) wrote a series of books : “Who killed Aung San?” and “Eliminating the Elite”. BBC produced a documentary based on the books and the declassified documents (in UK).

He also provided information about his uncles (U Tin Tut, U Myint Thein, Dr. Htin Aung) and aunts (Daw Khin Mya Mu, Daw Khin Saw Mu, Daw Tin Saw Mu).
