* Tribute to Saya U Tin Hlaing (KS)

(Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering. R.I.T)

By U Kyaw Sein (M65)

First of all, I would like to thank Sayagyi U Aung Khin for reviving the biography of Saya U Tin Hlaing, and U Hla Min for publishing it in “RIT ALUMNI news letter”. I also thank you Saya U Maung Maung Win, for your reminiscing remarks about your days with Saya U Tin Hlaing.

In our undergrad days at R.I.T, most of the Sayas conducted lectures in “English”. I admire the way he spoke at lectures and the way he dressed. He always wear his necktie loosely and spoke softly just like Sayargyi U Aung Khin. We had to pay constant attention to hear his lectures. We never shouted “Ma Kyar Ya Boo” to our teachers. That’s one of the “RIT Spirits” every student possessed. Those who had studied under him may be aware of these facts.

I was beside him on the day before his demise. Because of his illness he could not speak well. He told me that he was feeling uncomfortable because of his gradually dried up skin. So, I went to B.P.I (Burma pharmaceutical Industry) which was just opposite to R.I.T to get some “Vaseline” to apply on the skin to curb the itching sensation. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his illness a day after.
