U Aung Myint (Bassein), son of U Maung Thwe and Daw Lay, graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from the RIT in 1969. He joined the Institute as an Instructor in 1970 and left for U.K., obtaining Masters degree in Fluid Mechanics in 1974. He worked as an Assistant Lecturer at RIT till 1980, when he left for Singapore. He lectured at Singapore Polytechnic until retirement.

He is married to Daw Khin Nwe Aye and has two daughters. The elder daughter completed studies at Medical Trinity College at Dublin, UK. The younger one dher studies in Neuroscience at University of Otago, New Zealand.
