Background

• Many universities have “Alumni Relations Department” and “Alumni Association“.
• They have personnel to reach out to alumni and hold alumni events.
• Notable and successful alumni support their alma mater in various ways. e.g. establish new Departments, Chairs, Research facilities, Mentoring programs, Internships

Sad story

• After the fateful Coup D’etat in 1962, all organizations (except BSPP and related ones) were banned.
• The practice continued to the Adhamma Era, where our alma mater was branded as “Thabon Kyaung” and the Swel Daw Bins were banished.

Perseverance

• With the dawning of the Pwint Linn Era, steps were taken to bring back the alma mater to former glory.
• In February 2016, U Wynn Htain Oo, U Tin Latt and U Than Htay proposed to U Aye Myint (then Rector of YTU) the establishment of an alumni association. The Rector gladly agreed.
• A core group helped with the registration of RIT-YIT-YTU Alumni Association.

Issues

• Many alumni were not aware of the association and its objectives
• Only a few (mostly members of the “80000 YaThay”) actively participated in the formative events
• There was virtually no fund to operate (let alone assist the alma mater)

Help and Resolution

Then, things started to click

• An office space for the Alumni Association was provided by YTU
• The association received nice Logo and Banner.
• Donations — large and small — were received (mostly for the YTU Library Modernization Project which is a requirement for the Accreditation).
  Donations were received from well-wishers (who are not alumni).
• Membership grew by leaps and bounds.
  Even alumni overseas joined the association.
  Currently, Life membership costs K60000.
• Saya’s Corner was established.
  Wheel chairs are available (especially for use by Sayagyis attending SPZPs).
• Staff and Volunteers helped with the regular and ad hoc projects (such as clean-up).
• The Annual General Meeting (AGM) was attended by alumni spanning three (or so) decades.
  Several young alumni came forward to take leadership roles.
• The association helped with
  YTU Library Modernization Project,
  “Honoring matriculates of alumni”
  and the vetting of YTU students applying for financial aid.

RIT Alumni Association ဆုိတာ

RITမွာ ဆရာကန္ေတာ့ပြဲေတြ လုပ္တာ ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္း သားသမီးေတြကို ဆုေပးတာ ပညာသင္ ေထာက္ပံ့ေၾကးေတြ ေပးတာလိုမ်ဴိး ကိစၥေတြကို သက္ဆုိင္ရာ batch အလုိက္ ေမဂ်ာအလုိက္ တက္ၾကြသူ ေစတနာရွင္ေတြက ကမကထ လုပ္ၿပီး ေဆာင္ရြက္ၾကတယ္။ သက္ဆုိင္ရာ batch အလုိက္ ေမဂ်ာအလုိက္ ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္း အဖြဲ႔လို႔ နံမည္တပ္ေပမဲ့ RIT ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္းအဖြဲ႔လုိ႔ တရား၀င္ ကိုယ္စားျပဳ ေဆာင္ရြက္တာမ်ဴိး မရွိခဲ့ဘူး။ ရွိဖုိ႔လဲ မလုိခဲ့ဘူး။ ကိုယ္ ဆႏၵရွိတာကို ကိုယ့္အသုိင္းအ၀န္းနဲ႔ ကိုယ့္ႏွစ္နဲ႔ ကိုယ့္ေမဂ်ာနဲ႔ ေဆာင္ရြက္တာဘဲေလ။ ဗဟုိျပဳ တာ၀န္ခံမဲ့လူ မလိုအပ္ခဲ့ဘူး။ အခ်ိန္တန္ရင္ တက္ၾကြသူေတြက ကမကထလုပ္ ေစတနာရွင္ေတြက ၀ုိင္းၾက ၀န္းၾကနဲ႔ ျဖစ္ေအာင္ လုပ္သြားၾကတာ RIT ထုံးစံ ျဖစ္ခဲ့တယ္။ ေနရာ မလုိဘူး အလုပ္ ျဖစ္ဖို႔ အဓိကေလ။

၂၀၁၆မွာ ေက်ာင္းက Accreditation ယူဖို႔ စလုပ္တယ္။ Accreditation ဆုိတာ ပညာေရး ဘြဲ႔ program တစ္ခုရဲ့ အရည္အေသြးကို တုိင္းတာလို႔ ရတဲ့ သတ္မွတ္ စံႏွဴန္းေတြနဲ႔ third party အဖြဲ႔အစည္းက စိစစ္ၿပီး အရည္အေသြး အာမခံခ်က္ ရွိေၾကာင္း အသိအမွတ္ ျပဳေပးတာ ျဖစ္တယ္။ ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံမွာ accreditation စယူဖို႔ကို RIT က ပထမဆုံး ေဆာင္ရြက္တာ ျဖစ္တယ္။ အဓိက ရည္ရြယ္ခ်က္က ကိုယ့္ေက်ာင္းက ေပးတဲ့ ဘြဲ႔ကုိ ေဒသတြင္းမွာ နုိင္ငံတကာမွာ ပို အသိအမွတ္ျပဳဖုိ႔ ျဖစ္တယ္။ စလုံးမွာ Professional Engineer ေျဖခြင့္ရဖို႔ RIT BE တစ္ခုထဲနဲ႔ မလုံေလာက္ဘဲ NUS, NTU မွာ Master ထပ္တက္ရတာမ်ဴိးေတြကို ေက်ာ္လႊားခ်င္လို႔ ျဖစ္တယ္။ အဲဒီလုိ accreditation ယူရာမွာ criteria ေတြ အမ်ားႀကီး ရွိတဲ့အထဲက တစ္ခုက တရား၀င္ တည္ေထာင္ထားတဲ့ Alumni ရွိဖုိ႔နဲ႔ curriculum update အတြက္ industry feedback ကုိ alumni က တဆင့္ ရဖို႔ ျဖစ္တယ္။

အဲဒီတုံးက ေက်ာငး္သားေဟာင္း အဖြဲ႔ေတြ အမ်ားႀကီး ရွိေပမဲ့ တရား၀င္မွတ္ပုံတင္ထားတာ မရွိတဲ့အတြက္ ပါခ်ဴပ္က ၂၀၁၄ ေရႊရတုပြဲ နဲ႔ ၂၀၁၆ Worldwide Reunion ေဆာင္ရြက္ခဲ့သူေတြကုိ ဖိတ္ေခၚၿပီး accreditation လုိအပ္ခ်က္အတြက္ တရား၀င္ alumni ေဆာင္ရြက္ေပးဖို႔ အသိေပးခဲ့တယ္။ စြယ္ေတာ္ရိပ္ သင္းဖြဲ႔စည္းမ်ဥ္းကို အေျခခံၿပီး သင္းဖြဲစည္းမ်ဥ္း မူၾကမ္းေရးဖို႔ ေကာ္မတီဖြဲ႔ေပးတယ္။ မူၾကမ္း ေကာ္မတီက ျပဳစုတင္ျပတဲ့ မူၾကမ္းကုိ ပါခ်ဴပ္ ဦးေဆာင္တဲ့ တရား၀င္ alumni ျဖစ္ေျမာက္ေရး ေကာ္မတီက ျပင္သင့္တာ ျပင္ခုိင္းၿပီး အတည္ျပဳ၊ ျပည္ေထာင္စု မွတ္ပုံတင္ အဖြဲ႔မွာ မွတ္ပုံတင္ ေလ ွ်ာက္ထား စတင္ခဲ့တယ္။

စြယ္ေတာ္ရိပ္က ျမစ္မ်ားခံ၊ ေရႊရတုနဲ႔ Worldwide ပြဲေတြ ေဆာင္ရြက္ခဲ့တဲ့ အစဥ္အလာအတုိင္း RIT AA ရဲ့ Office bearer ေတြဟာ focal သာ ျဖစ္တယ္။ Alumni အစည္းအေ၀းေတြဟာ ဘယ္ေတာ့မွ တံခါးပိတ္ မဟုတ္ခဲ့ဘူး။ ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္း ဘယ္သူမဆုိ တက္လို႔ရတယ္။ ၀င္ေဆြးေႏြးအၾကံေပးလို႔ရတယ္။ အစည္းအေ၀း မွတ္တမ္း၊ ဘ႑ာေရး ရွင္းတမ္း အစည္းအေ၀း တက္သူတုိင္းကို open ေ၀တယ္။ ဘာမွ confidential မထားဘူး။ အားလုံး က်ရာ ႏုိင္ရာကုိ ကိုယ္ တတ္နုိင္တဲ့ ေဒါင့္က ၀ိုင္းၾက ၀န္းၾကခဲ့တဲ့ အစဥ္အလာအတုိင္း ဆက္လက္ ေဆာင္ရြက္ခဲ့တာ ျဖစ္တယ္။

Alumni သက္တမ္းတုိတုိအတြင္းမွာ RIT Accreditation ယူဖို႔ လိုအပ္တဲ့ Industry feedback ေပးတာ၊ RIT စာၾကည့္တုိက္ အဆင့္ျမွင့္ဖို႔ လုိအပ္တဲ့ ဘ႑ာေငြ ရွာေဖြေပးတာေတြကို အဓိက ေဆာင္ရြက္ခဲ့တယ္။ တဖက္က RIT တက္ခြင့္ရၿပီး ေက်ာင္းစရိတ္ အခက္အခဲ ရွိေနသူေတြကို ေစတနာရွင္ေတြအတြက္ တာ၀န္္ခံ ေထာက္ပံ့ေၾကးေတြ ခ်ီးျမွင့္ ေပးေနၿပီး ႏုိင္ငံတကာအဆင့္ ထူးခၽြန္မွဴေတြအတြက္ ေထာက္ပ့ံမွဴေတြလဲ လုပ္ေပးေနတယ္။

Alumni ဟာ ၂၀၁၇ မွာ တရား၀င္ မွတ္ပုံတင္ ရခဲ့တဲ့အတြက္ အခု ၂၀၁၈ မွာ ပထမအႀကိမ္ အသင္းသား စုံညီ ညီလာခံ ေခၚ ေရြးေကာက္ပြဲ လုပ္ EC အသစ္ ျပန္ေရြးရမယ္။ မူလက ေရႊရတုနဲ႔ Worldwide ပူေဇာ္ပြဲ ၀ုိင္း၀န္းခဲ့သူ အမ်ားစုနဲ႔ ဖြဲ႔စည္းထားရာက အခု သတင္းစာကေန ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္း အားလုံးကို အသိေပးၿပီး EC အျဖစ္ တာ၀န္ယူေပးႏုိင္သူေတြ ဆႏၵျပဳဖို႔ ဖိတ္ေခၚထားတယ္။ လက္ရွိသင္းဖြဲ႔စည္းမ်ဥ္းအရ EC အဆုိျပဳထားတဲ့လူေတြထဲက EC အသစ္ေတြကို အသင္းသား မွတ္ပုံတင္ထားတဲ့လူေတြနဲ႔ လြတ္လပ္တဲ့ ဆႏၵမဲ နဲ႔ ေရြးေကာက္ တင္ေျမွာက္ရမွာ ျဖစ္တယ္။

RIT AA ရဲ့ ရည္ရြယ္ခ်က္က ရုိးရုိးေလး ျဖစ္တယ္။ ေက်ာင္းကို ျပန္ကူဖို႔ အဓိက ထားတယ္။ ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္းတုိင္း ပါ၀င္ႏုိင္ေပမဲ့ RIT AA ဟာ ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္း အားလုံးကို ကိုယ္စားျပဳတယ္လု႔ိ မေၾကြးေၾကာ္ဘူး။ တကယ္လုိ႔ RIT AA ရဲ့ ရည္ရြယ္ခ်က္နဲ႔ လုပ္ငန္းလမ္းစဥ္ေတြကို အားမရတဲ့ ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္းေတြက ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္း အသင္း ထပ္ေထာင္လဲ RIT AA က ဘာမွ ကန္႔ကြက္ဖို႔ မရွိဘူး။ ေက်ာင္းအတြက္ လုပ္ေပးမယ္ဆုိရင္ ဘယ္သူလုပ္လုပ္ ေကာင္းတာဘဲ။ ၀ိုင္း၀န္းတဲ့လူ မ်ားေလ ေကာင္းေလေပ့ါ။ ေက်ာင္းကုိ ကူဖုိ႔ မဟုတ္ဘဲ တျခား ရည္ရြယ္ခ်က္ တခုခုနဲ႔ ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္း အသင္းေထာင္တယ္ဆုိရင္ေတာ့ RIT AA က ဘာမွ မွတ္ခ်က္ျပဳဖုိ႔ မရွိ၊ ကိုယ္နဲ႔ လမ္းစဥ္ မတူဘူးဘဲ ေျပာရမယ္။.

စြယ္ေတာ္ရိပ္လုိဘဲ RIT AA ဟာ ျပည္ေထာင္စု မွတ္ပုံတင္ အဖြဲ႔မွာ မွတ္ပုံတင္ ထားတဲ့ တရား၀င္ အဖြဲ႔အစည္းျဖစ္တယ္။ RIT ေက်ာင္းသားေဟာင္းတုိင္း RIT AA မွာ ပါ၀င္လို႔ ရတယ္။ RIT AA FB Page ကေန လုပ္သမ ွ် အသိေပးတယ္။ တက္တက္ၾကြၾကြ ပါ၀င္ လွဴပ္ရွားေနသူေတြကလဲ သူတို႔ရဲ့ FB wall ကေန တဆင့္ အသိေပးတယ္။ စက္တင္ဘာ လကုန္ EC အသစ္ ေရြးၿပီးတာနဲ႔ website လဲ တင္မယ္။ ဒီၾကားထဲကကုိ မသိေသးတဲ့လူေတြ ဒုနဲ႔ ေဒး ရွိႏုိင္တယ္။ ပိုမ်ားမ်ား သိဖုိ႔ကေတာ့ သိသူေတြက လက္ဆင့္ကမ္းမွ ပို ထိေရာက္ ျပန္႔ႏွံမယ္။
