HM : Metaphor and Simile

  • Both are linguistic devices
  • Both can be used to make comparisons
  • A metaphor makes a comparison directly
e.g. Richard the Lion Heart (metaphor)
  • A simile uses “like” and “as” to make a comparison
    Examples :
as wise as an owl (simile)
    agile like a monkey (simile)
