Matthew Hunter, Principal of Rangoon College, selected Dr. Ba Than and U Kyaw Myint to sit for entrance examination of Calcutta University and study Medicine.

Dr. Ba Than served as Chief Surgeon of RGH.

During the war, the British ordered him to evacuate. He stayed and operated the “Ja Pun Khit Say Yone Gyi”. The hospital served Bogyoke Aung San, Thakin Than Tun and Bo Ne Win.

Dr. Ba Than was an excellent soccer player(with the name “Shan Lay”) and as a musician (who founded “Zwe” Ah Nyeint).
